ANIPLA TECHTALK – NO SAFETY WITHOUT SECURITY, NO SECURITY WITHOUT SAFETY – HOW TO START

Analysing both safety and security risks in an industrial automation and control system (IACS) is important because it allows organizations to identify and address all potential sources of harm. This includes implementing safety measures such as safety instrumented systems (SIS) to prevent accidents, as well as security measures such as firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection systems to prevent cyber-attacks and other security breaches.
The IEC 61511 standard recognizes the importance of analysing both safety and security risks in an IACS system. This is because a security breach or cyber-attack could potentially compromise the safety of the system, leading to accidents, equipment damage, and even personnel injury or loss of life. In addition to the safety risks that can result from accidents, IEC 62443 recognizes that IACS systems are also vulnerable to security risks, such as cyber-attacks or unauthorized access, which can lead to equipment damage, system downtime, or safety incidents.
By analysing both safety and security risks, organizations can develop a comprehensive risk management strategy that addresses all potential sources of harm and ensures that the IACS system is well-protected against both accidental and intentional harm. This approach helps to ensure the overall safety and reliability of the system and protects the organization’s assets and reputation.
This webinar will give you a short introduction to the topics with some references to additional industry guidance material.
